Caution, could get some coffee hobby led to obesity
Coffee is increasingly latched onto with the everyday urban people, but these habitscan lead to obesity in drinks labelled an extra sweetener.
Coffee and tea donated 5.1 percent calories from the foods eaten adults in major cities Indonesia, based on a study by researcher Helda Khusun from SEAMEO-REFCON in 864 men and women aged 18-45 years in East Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar and Medan.
Helda say drinks that serve to make the body hydrated, should not contribute calories.
“But the development of this now many drinks flavoured with sweet, contributors to calories from sugar,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In addition to coffee and tea, sweet drinks of other types contribute calories include soda (0.4%), fruit juice (0.3 per cent) and other (0.7 percent).
The sweet tea was ranked first in the list of beverages often consumed Indonesia‘s urban communities, at least three times a week.
33.4 percent of respondents confessed to often drink sweet tea, followed by fruit juice (13.8 percent), coffee (12.9%), instant coffee (12.4%), bottled tea (9.3 percent) and juice boxes (4.2 percent).
Nutritional Medical Doctors Association Chairman Indonesia Elvina Karyadi said consumption patterns of urban society is so one of the things that are worrying. Moreover, physical activity of people in urban areas is relatively low.
When not immediately prevented, health burden that should be borne by the Government will become increasingly heavy because any diseases lurk society due to an unhealthy lifestyle.
Obesity is more prevalent in men than those who established marsupials mediocre, but the pattern is precisely reversed in the case of women.
Based on the results of the study 864 samples in Indonesia, big city man more obesity found among high economic level. The lower level of the economy, the less number of sufferers are also obese.
“In women, obesity is much happening on their low economic status,” said Helda Khusun researchers from SEAMEO–REFCON in media gathering in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In the category of most economic level is high, the number of obese men and women are similar, each 23.5% and 23.2 per cent. However, on the economic level is lower, the number of obese women ride so 44.3 percent, while men only 14.3 percent.
Helda suggests there has been no definitive answer behind the phenomenon.
“There are many hypotheses,“ he said.
He guessed it could be associated with hormonal contraceptives also used women.
